JULIANA, LINH & MARIA'S IDEA: Sustainable Hub

Your Name

Juliana, Linh and Maria

In one sentence, tell us about your idea.

We have an idea for creating a website that helps businesses looking for sustainable solutions and implementations connect with zero-waste suppliers.

Finish this sentence: My ideal collaborative partner or partners would be...

Our ideal collaborative partners would be zero-waste supply companies. Their company brand name and their company information will be on our website. From that, our website will help companies looking for sustainable solutions to find suitable zero-waste suppliers so that they can cooperate.

In regards to finding the right collaborator, what is the most immediate or most pressing challenge you're facing right now?

The website will be created to become a free resource for businesses to gain access to zero-waste products and suppliers, therefore, there would be little to no profit generated for the websites’ admins and partners, which may cause a lack of incentive to maintain the long-term and consistent operation. Zero-waste products are commonly more expensive due to their high production costs. This can become a challenge to convince businesses to make eco-friendly purchases. The website, therefore, will be required to be very informative and cogent in terms of the negative impacts of non-zero-waste products and the long-term benefits of being zero-wasted.

BONUS QUESTION: What is it about your idea that makes you feel good?

The website will become a free and accessible hub that connects businesses and zero-waste suppliers, making eco-friendly resources more within the reach of companies/consumers. It will also encourage and educate people on how to take sustainable actions in their workplace and personal lives. As businesses make eco-friendly improvements through our website, it will help limit the amount of waste released to the environment by companies every year, favouring the environment and local lives. Zero-waste suppliers can as well generate more profits, advertise their brand image, and expand their operations.

What makes your idea innovative? Why has no one ever done it before?

There are a lot of zero-waste supply companies in Vancouver; however, not everyone knows where and how to find the best appropriate zero-waste supply companies. In other parts of the world, it might be even harder to connect with zero waste programs/businesses. Therefore, our idea can help businesses to easily find and connect the best suitable zero waste programs/companies.

How far does your idea reach?

Regional

Ideally, when would you launch this idea?

In a year

Who will benefit the most from your idea?

The first and most important beneficiary would be our planet, by reducing plastic and single-use items in the tourism and hospitality companies. Small businesses will benefit by not having to waste a lot of time researching or hiring a specialist. The community will benefit from the investments made in local business owners and products.

At Sigmund, we are interested in ideas at the intersection of People, Planet, and Profit. How does your idea support these three categories?
