TAYLOR'S IDEA: Easiest way for tourists to buy homemade treats from locals

I am building a platform that will be the easiest way for tourists to buy homemade goods from local chefs, bakers, and tasty treat makers. I am looking to collaborate with those who have launched similar models.

+ What is your name?

Taylor

+ Location:

United States

+ In one sentence, tell us about your idea.

I'm building the first ever platform for tourists to buy homemade goods from locals called COTTAGE.

+ What are you looking for by posting your idea on Open Source?

I need a collaborator who has launched something like this before and can advise me on next steps (soft launch, AB testing, product development, geographic market selection, etc.)

+ What makes your idea innovative? Why has no one ever done it before?

I believe people will be wary of restaurants for a while, especially when traveling. I think this is the ideal time to popularize the idea of buying homemade goods from locals out of their homes while on holiday. Remember when it was CRAZY to think people would pay money to sleep in stranger's homes? Now 150 million people per year book Airbnb rentals globally. No one has done it before because it seems like a risky business with health codes, liability, etc. but actually cottage industry health codes/certifications are made in favor of the seller more than you'd think.

This idea is…

Local

Regional

National

Global

+ Who will benefit the most from your idea?

Local people who make a tasty treat from their home and want to earn extra income. Secondarily, the tourist will enjoy a more authentic local interaction than is on offer from the more traditional touring options available.

+ Ideally, when would you launch this idea?

In a few months

+ Finish this sentence: My ideal collaborative partner or partners would be...

Someone who knows what I should do next.

+ Indicate which UN goals your idea relates to?

Zero Hunger

Decent Work and Economic Growth

Reduced Inequality

Sustainable Cities and Communities

+ At Sigmund, we are interested in ideas at the intersection of People, Planet, and Profit. How does your idea relate to these three categories?

My idea will be profitable as we will model after other home-selling marketplaces like Poshmark and Mercari which take a percentage of all sales (20%), but we will do the heavy lifting for the vendors by covering all the marketing, logistics, and payment processing on our end to make it worth our commission to the vendor.

A portion of profits will be donated to Action Against Hunger, who has a staff of nearly 8,500 people, serving more than 17 million people in 46 countries last year alone. Global hunger is on the rise. Despite the fact that there is more than enough food produced in the world to feed everyone on the planet, about 690 million people worldwide go to bed hungry each night.

+ If you have a website for your idea, please enter the URL below.

I built a basic site using Shopify free trial, but now the trial has ended :) See screenshots.

+ Lastly, ___, what is it about your idea that makes you feel good?

I like the idea of helping people earn extra income through something they're already good at and enjoy doing. I also like building more authentic local interaction points for travelers. And I like the fact that a portion of profit will go towards combating world hunger.
