+ In one sentence, tell us about your idea.
Expedition MS is a global sailing initiative that tackles the $88,487 annual financial burden of Multiple Sclerosis by organizing fundraising expeditions, creating impactful media content, and fostering community-driven support, all aimed at reducing costs for affected families and promoting inclusivity in the maritime community.
+ Describe your ideal collaborative partner or partners.
My ideal collaborative partner, or partners, would be organizations or individuals who share a commitment to addressing the challenges of MS, possess expertise in fundraising, media production, or the maritime industry, and are passionate about leveraging innovative approaches to create meaningful impact and foster inclusivity within affected communities.
+ What is the most immediate or most pressing challenge you're facing right now?
The most immediate and pressing challenge in finding the right collaborator is identifying partners who not only align with our mission to support those affected by Multiple Sclerosis but also possess the specific expertise and resources necessary to execute a global initiative. This includes securing collaborators with strong networks in the media industry for impactful storytelling, expertise in large-scale fundraising to meet our ambitious financial goals, and connections within the maritime community to facilitate our sailing expeditions. Additionally, it is crucial to find partners who are committed to long-term collaboration and have the capacity to adapt to the unique demands of our project.
+ What is it about your idea that makes you feel good?
What makes me feel good about Expedition MS is the way it embodies the strength, resilience, and humor that were central to my father's approach to life with Multiple Sclerosis—a philosophy captured in our family motto, "We Crack Ourselves Up." This project is not just about raising funds or awareness; it's about creating a community where individuals facing the adversities of MS can find empowerment, connection, and even joy in the midst of their struggles. By sharing stories of perseverance and using sailing as a metaphor for navigating life's challenges, I hope to inspire millions of others affected by MS to embrace these values, helping them see that while the journey is difficult, it is possible to face it with both strength and a sense of humor.
+ What makes your idea innovative? Why has no one ever done it before?
Our idea is innovative because it combines the adventurous spirit of global circumnavigation with a powerful mission to alleviate the financial burden of MS, a unique approach that has never been fully realized. While other initiatives have focused on awareness or fundraising for MS, none have harnessed the universal appeal of sailing to create an immersive, global experience that also serves as a platform for impactful storytelling and community engagement. By integrating advanced media strategies, including VR experiences, with on-the-ground sailing events, we are pioneering a method that both raises funds and directly empowers those affected by MS. This approach not only brings global attention to a lesser-known issue—Progressive MS—but also connects diverse communities worldwide, creating a supportive network that extends far beyond traditional fundraising efforts. We believe we will succeed because our team combines deep personal motivation, professional expertise in sailing, media, and fundraising, and established partnerships with key organizations. This unique blend of passion, skills, and strategic alliances positions us to effectively execute this ambitious project where others have not.

+ At Sigmund, we are interested in ideas at the intersection of People, Planet, and Profit. How does your idea support these three categories?
People: Our idea supports people by directly addressing the financial and emotional challenges faced by individuals and families affected by Multiple Sclerosis. Through our global sailing expeditions, we create a platform for raising funds that alleviate the substantial economic burden of MS care. Additionally, we foster community engagement, provide emotional support, and empower those with MS to participate in activities that might otherwise seem inaccessible, thereby improving their quality of life and sense of belonging.
Planet: Our expeditions will also integrate environmental stewardship, focusing on marine conservation efforts such as combating microplastic pollution and protecting ocean habitats. By partnering with environmental organizations and including sustainability practices in our journeys, we aim to raise awareness and take actionable steps to preserve the planet’s natural resources.
Profit: While our initiative was originally ideated to be a nonprofit, we leverage innovative fundraising strategies, including media partnerships and corporate sponsorships, to create a sustainable revenue model. This allows us to generate the necessary funds to support MS-affected families and invest in the long-term growth and impact of our mission. By connecting with businesses and impact investors who share our values, we ensure that our efforts contribute to economic stability and the greater social good.
